Mario and the Magician
Mario und Zauber ...or Mario and the Magician (1994)...Professor Fuhrmann This is an Austrian film, based on a short story by Thomas Mann. Julian plays a repressed German professor who becomes obsessed with a beautiful Italian waiter. His wife is played by French actress Anna Galiena, and 'the magician' (and also the director) is Klaus Maria Brandauer. (information contributed by David M.) The film keeps the story in its original time frame - the 1920s - but its message deals - in a loose treatment of the original story - in a modern manner with the problems of intolerance, racism and the political drift to the right.
